FAQ

Questions people usually ask

Straight answers about websites, how I work, and what to expect. If yours isn’t here, get in touch.

Working together

How do I start a project?

Send a short note via the contact form: what you need, roughly when, and any budget range you’re comfortable sharing. I’ll reply with whether it’s a fit and what the next step looks like.

Who do you usually work with?

People, small businesses, organisations and charities who need a clear website, not a bloated agency process. If you’re unsure which type of site you need, describe the problem and I’ll suggest what fits.

Are you available for freelance work?

Yes. Website design and build, taken on in my own time alongside my research role. Capacity varies, so it’s worth asking early if you have a fixed date.

Do you work remotely?

I’m based in Nottingham, United Kingdom, and work with clients remotely by default. Local meetings are possible when it helps.

Websites

What kinds of websites do you build?

Four main kinds: brochure / portfolio sites, sites you can edit yourself, bookings & enquiry sites, and smaller web applications (logins, members’ areas, directories). More detail is on What I offer.

Can I update the site myself after launch?

Yes, if we build it that way. Many projects include a simple admin area so you can change text, photos, prices or opening hours without asking me every time. For a fixed brochure site, updates can be handled as occasional care instead.

Do you handle hosting, domains and email?

I can set those up as part of a project, or work with what you already have. Ongoing hosting and renewals are quoted clearly when they’re involved, with nothing locked into mystery fees.

Will my site work well on phones?

Yes. Sites are designed to work properly on phones first, then larger screens, not a desktop layout squeezed down as an afterthought.

What don’t you do?

I’m not a full branding agency, ad buyer, or copywriter-for-hire. I also don’t take on huge enterprise platforms. If something is outside scope, I’ll say so and point you somewhere better when I can.

Practical

How much does a website cost?

It depends on scope. A few clear pages is very different from a bookings site or a small web app. The contact form asks for a rough budget range so I can reply honestly. You’ll get a written quote before any paid work starts.

How long does a project usually take?

Many brochure or CMS sites land in a few weeks once content is ready. Bookings tools and web apps take longer. Timeline is part of the quote, and it depends on how quickly feedback and materials come back.

What do you need from me?

Typically: who you are, what you offer, how people should contact you, any logo or photos you already have, and examples of sites you like (or don’t). If copy isn’t ready, we can start with structure and fill text as you go.

How do payments work?

Usually a clear quote, then invoice stages (for example a deposit to start and the balance on launch). Card payment links can be used where set up. Details are always written into the quote so nothing is vague.

What happens to my enquiry details?

I use them only to reply and discuss the work. Full detail is in the privacy policy. You’ll also tick consent on the form before sending.

About me

Is website work separate from your day job?

Yes. My research role at Nottingham Trent is separate. Freelance website projects are independent work I take on deliberately: different clients, different agreements.

Do you only do websites, or also data / analytics?

My background covers both. The freelance offer on this site is focused on websites and Django builds. For data or analytics collaborations, use contact and say what you need, or see My journey for experience.

Can I see examples of your work?

What I offer includes design directions and how projects typically run. My journey covers selected professional work and experience.
